Tuition Times and general arrangements regarding collection of learner/s:

Parents MUST pick up learners at their REGISTER CLASS between 13:00 and 13:30.

Parents MUST please enter and leave through GATE "D" after the learner has been fetched from their class. Please do not visit any other facility.

In the media (newspapers, television, social media, etc.) it is evident that child abduction is increasing, therefore the arrangement to pick up your child at class yourself. In this way the teacher can familiarise herself with who fetches the learner.

Taxi drivers must collect the learners at class! (Gr. RR-3)

Please complete page 1 "PERSONAL AND EMERGENCY INFORMATION". We never know when an emergency arises.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
When a learner is collected earlier than the compulsory school time, an official letter for consent MUST be completed and signed off by the class teacher. (Proof of appointment could be requested). Arrangements must be made in advance where possible with the teacher.
Learners who do not have the compulsory academic time at the school will be marked absent.
Absenteeism due to illness must be reported telephonically.
Learners must be kept at home in case of the following:

When sick / ill (when the learner will not be able to participate in the day program, he / she should be kept at home.)

When having a contagious illness,
-
When having head lice (even in cases where there are only nits).
-
Ringworm.
Learners must be kept at home until fully recovered.
Sick notes could be requested.
HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework in the Taalfees is considered one of the most important ways of communicating with parents on a weekly basis.

Homework is given to the learners so that parents can be aware of what is being taught in the classroom daily.

Homework is given on a weekly basis.
-
Homework means that these are the assignments given to the learners to do at home daily. The teacher only follows up on whether the homework has been done and is not responsible for marking it, even if it is done at an after-school centre, parents must still check the homework and sign that it has been done and checked.

Timing is of utmost importance.

Please check your child’s merits / demerits every day.

Initial every day in your child's homework.
The teacher remains responsible for the learners receiving homework as well as checking that it has been done. Correctness is the responsibility of the parent, as well as its intensive marking.
Homework is presented in the different grade groups as follows:
GRADE 1

Given on a weekly basis: sounds, reading and exercises are provided to the learners in booklet form.

The MODULE, WEEK and DAYS appear from MONDAY to THURSDAY with each day's activity.

Parents can monitor the reading, sound and theme words every day and practice sight words.

All written work and extra exercises are done in the child’s A4 homework book.

It is crucial that sight words (theme and spelling) are practiced daily.

Parents can monitor the child’s progress and if they find that it is not satisfactory, they can contact the teacher.
-
Homework will be checked by class teacher every day but won’t be marked.

Teachers will also contact the parents in the homework book for extra work or information for remedial teaching.

Homework time must not exceed +/- 20 minutes daily.

Please cover the A4 homework book neatly with your child's name and surname on it.
GRAAD 2 & LSEN

Please cover the homework book neatly with your child's name and surname.

The MODULE, WEEK and DAYS appear from MONDAY to THURSDAY with each day's activity, to be handed out on Mondays.

Learners get homework from all the work that was covered in class that day.

The homework booklet includes all sounds, reading and math.

Homework is done in the relevant book unless an assignment card is provided.

Homework will be checked by class teacher every day but won’t be marked.

If any problem occurs, the parent is welcome to contact the teacher in the homework book, so that the necessary work can be explained or repeated to the learner.

Time for daily homework must not exceed ± 30 minutes for written homework. Excluding reading. READ AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

Teacher will contact the parents if any remedial teaching needs to take place.

An art project is given once a term. Please note that this will count for an assessment mark for Life Skills.

All oral presentations must be thoroughly prepared, as this counts as an oral assessment point. This oral mark forms a large part of the report card mark.
GRADE 3

Learners in Grade 3 are introduced to the importance of independent copying of homework from the 4th term. It teaches them/learners independence and accuracy.

Learners receives homework weekly in booklet form that includes spelling, reading, mathematics, handwriting (print and cursive), additional language as well as certain research activities.

Homework is checked by the teacher, but not marked. (It is the parents' duty to check homework, so parents can also highlight possible problems).

All correspondence where there are problems or any work that is not understood is recorded in the homework book by the parent. The teacher will provide the necessary assistance and follow-up.

Should any remedial teaching need to take place, the teacher will make the necessary contact with the parents to decide and hand out letters.

All projects for assessment purposes provided must be in writing, with all the necessary information such as submission date, project information, as well as the mark of the assignment.

Time for daily writing homework must not exceed ± 45 minutes.
